Performances (Interactive)
In my on-going quest to provide the public with meaningful face-to-face human interactions, I presented a performance at the opening reception for a pop-up gallery in Mahopac, NY. My goal was to engage people in conversations about the ways in which our time and place in history is reflected in the daily newspapers. As a means of stimulating such discussions, I brought my collection of front pages from the New York Times.
I was very pleased to discover that the gallery visitors were very anxious to share their opinions with me. Some people declared their love for the NYTIMES, asserting that this publication presented a full and truthful picture of our era. Others voiced a diametrically opposed conviction, citing examples of the distortions put forth as fact in this paper and in other media sources. All in all, it was a thought-provoking experience — for the participants and for me!
