The Sink
Videos (by GeneFree)
Gene Panczenko and I decided to create a free, public screening event for Halloween 2013. We developed and shot an original narrative, using Gene’s basement as a set. Then, we edited the footage, emulating the style of a silent horror film from the 1930’s. The resultant video combines elements of suspense with a bit of creepiness. Additionally, the dark, moody setting and a brief suggestion of sexuality bring a touch of film noir to the project.
The screening event took place on Halloween from 8pm to 10pm on Brown Street in Peekskill, in front of Marcy’s studio. The work was projected onto the exterior of the Peekskill Coffee House and also shown on a monitor in the back of Gene’s station wagon. Many people showed up, having read about the project in the local press. Others were just lucky to find “The Sink” playing as they exited a screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” at the Paramount Theater, which is adjacent to Marcy’s studio. All in all, the event was quite a success!
