This performance altered the direction of my work as a performance artist!
I had decided to lure people to my studio by paying them to visit. That’s right. I stood on the street with a box full of sealed envelopes. Each envelope contained either a $1 or $5 or $10 or $20 dollar bill. Anyone who ventured up the stairs and into my studio could come back down and take an envelope. Well, the project was a great success, and I discovered that I had really loved chatting with the people on the street about my motivations for doing this project and about their motivations for participating. Retrospectively, I consider this to be my first one-on-one, face-to-face interactive performance piece.
